光陰荏苒,轉眼間惠僑辦學已屆四十載。在這段日子裏,惠僑亦如人生一樣,經歷了幾許風雨,見證了時代的變遷。惠僑英文中學於1968年創校當天以平民形式於九龍石硤尾區刻苦辦學,期間縱幾經迭變,但涓滴流泉,春風化雨的使命從未或忘。
Time flies! Wai Kiu College has been cultivating students for 40 years. Wai Kiu, just like our life, has encountered a lot of difficulties and has witnessed the change of times. Wai Kiu College, a vernacular school running industriously at Shek Kip Mei, was founded in 1968. Although the college changed time after time, it has still maintained its education motto to nurture students.
踏入千禧年代,惠僑獲香港特區政府批准成為直接資助中學,得以自行訂定具特色的課程,落實多元化的辦學理念,以為學生修業進德之階梯。近十年以來的各項變革,已見成效,同時亦察納各方雅言,以作學校發展之明燈。惠僑在過往的一段日子獲得社會賢達、區內坊眾之支持和厚愛,而校內同學亦不負眾望,無論學業成績及課外活動各方面,均有所進步。
At the beginning of this new millennium, Wai Kiu has successfully obtained permission from the HKSAR Government to be a Direct Subsidy School. Hence, we are able to set up a distinctive curriculum and put our education philosophy – diversification – into practice. This curriculum can serve as a bridge for the entire personal development of the students. The reforms in the recent 10 years are effective. Meanwhile, we listen to every comment from the public to chart a path for the school’s development. Wai Kiu received a lot of support and kudos from all walks of life. Likewise, our students acted accordingly to deliver the goods. Their academic results and the performance of extra curricular activities have improved.
因緣際會,我有幸與惠僑一起成長,見證了惠僑的變遷。自1989年起以代課形式於惠僑英文中學任教,歲月匆匆,瞬間已達十九個年頭了。自己從普通教師,晉升為經濟科主任、課外活動主任、助理校長、副校長以至校長,所擔任的工作更日趨繁重。加上面對教育改革洪流,過往的書本知識實不敷應用,所以筆者亦於期間不斷進修,自我增值,期望貢獻所長,為學生提供優質教育。筆者亦於1995年至2005年期間,歷任香港課外活動主任協會幹事及義務司庫一職,除與其他學校聯繫溝通、互相砥礪外,亦希望能對業界作出微薄的貢獻。
I have had the honour to grow with Wai Kiu by chance. I have encountered and witnessed her changes. Time flies. Nineteen years ago I taught here as a substitute teacher in 1989. I was then promoted from an ordinary teacher, to the panel of extra-curricular activity, then to being an assistant principal. Later I was the vice-principal and eventually became the principal, and the workload multiplied gradually. In addition, facing the new academic curriculum, knowledge I gained from textbooks is no longer sufficient. So I never stop equipping myself by pursuing further education so as to strengthen myself to provide a high quality of education. Between 1995 and 2005, I also served as the executive member of the Committee of Hong Kong Extra-Curricular Activities Masters Association and voluntary treasurer. Besides communicating with other schools and encouraging each other, I also hope that I can devote myself to the education field.
想當年,「我的志願」從未考慮以教師為終身事業。然而,一踏足這行業,幌眼十九年,從惠僑的「新鮮人」漸漸變成了惠僑的領導者,從以教師為一份工作變成了自己的終身事業,多年來從一而終,矢志培育惠僑的學生成為德才兼備的好青年。
I have never considered being a teacher as my lifelong career in the past. Yet, 19 years after my first step into this field, I grew from a “freshman” to the leader of Wai Kiu, from treating teaching as a job to regarding it as my lifelong career. I have never thought of giving up. And I give my pledge to continually nurture our students to be the youths with both ability and morality.
對我來說,提升同學的學業成績固然重要。除此之外,同學的品格培養亦是重要的一環,因此自己定必秉承並努力達致。我確信所有學生均能透過學校教育成為社會未來的棟樑,所以矢志為學生提供全面及均衡的教育。
To me, improving students’ academic performance is no doubt an important task. What we seek for even more is nurturing students’ personalities. So I must set this goal and drive to achieve it. I believe that our students could be the pillar of the future society through the education from school, and that is the reason why I give my pledge to provide a comprehensive and balanced education.
多年以來,教師所帶給我的最大滿足感,並不是金錢的回報,而是上一課精彩的課堂,和與學生所培養師生之情。師生在每一節課均全情投入,久而久之,成績或操行稍遜的同學漸有改進,以及用積極樂觀的態度面對學習及人生。
Throughout these years, the biggest satisfaction of being a teacher has not been the monetary returns, but rather having fantastic lessons, and establishing a good relationship with students. Teachers and students are keen on every lesson. As time goes by, students who were not good in academic and conduct have gradually shown improvement. They also learn to face their life optimistically.
數年前,惠僑正值新舊交替的關鍵時刻。幸好,一批年青而富幹勁、具教育熱誠的新面孔加入惠僑,經過一段磨合期後,新舊同工已一起建立共同的願景,回應各持分者需要,與時俱進,成為一個和諧互信、互相支援、鼓勵和分享的學習型的專業教學團隊,營建一所充滿愛心與關懷的學校。
A few years ago, Wai Kiu was in a critical moment of transition. Fortunately, a group of new teachers who were energetic and enthusiastic about education joined the school. And with the concerted effort of all the staff, we have been able to reach the same goal, response to the need of the stakeholders and keep pace with time. We are a professional teaching team which is based on harmony, mutual support and trust. Our school is full of love and concern.
教育是一項「未來工作」,是為將來的社會提供人才,所以作為教育工作者,視野應該不只留在過去,而是面對未來。期望社會賢達和區內坊眾在將來繼續支持惠僑的發展,教職員同工繼續同心協力,學生們繼續勤奮向上,令惠僑能夠在香港教育改革中不斷地作出貢獻,使到學生能在學校學會學習和學會技能,以應付明日世界的挑戰。
Education, providing talent for society, is a job for our future. Hence, as a teacher, we should not confine our visions to the past, but to face the future. It is hoped that the community will support the school development continuously. All of our staff will work concertedly and all our students will study industriously so that Wai Kiu will contribute progressively to the education reforms in Hong Kong. Eventually, our students are able to learn independently and acquire some practical skills to cope with this challenging world. |
